Introduction

Our fantastic self-drive South African Garden Route & Cape holiday takes in many of South Africa's highlights, beautifully timed to allow plenty of opportunities to explore each of the very different destinations and soak in each of their unique atmospheres.

From cosmopolitan Cape Town and the beautifully rugged Cape Peninsular, the stunning and relaxing Winelands bursting with delicious flavours, the intruiging and natural Karoo region to the picturesque coastal towns and beaches of the Garden Route, all topped off by a luxury lodge in safari wonderland - The Eastern Cape!

Day-by-Day

Day 1 - 5: Cape Town

After arriving into Cape Town spend 4 nights at the contemporary Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel in the heart of historic Tamboerskloof, at the foot of Table Mountain. With panoramic views of the city and Table Mountain from the rooftop bar, restaurants, art gallery and luxury spa, this is the perfect base from which to explore.

Day 5 - 7: Cape Winelands

The next two nights are spent in the village of Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands, where Ashbourne House offers attractive and charming rooms with a tranquil pool and shaded patio. Sample local wines, explore the cellars of renowned vineyards, dine on gourmet meals in picturesque gardens and relax into the finer things in life in one of South Africa’s prettiest and most tranquil locations.

Day 7 - 9: Karoo Region - Oodtshoorn

Next, Thorntree Country Lodge, outside Oudtshoorn, is a beautiful family run country house, from which the endless skies and natural wonders of the Klein Karoo region can be discovered. From Cango Caves underground limestone caverns to striking mountain passes, meercat colonies, ostrich farms and eccentric little villages.

Day 9 - 12: Garden Route - Robberg Beach

Spend three nights in Starfish Lodge contemporary beach house near Robberg Beach on the Garden Route – an area of stunning natural wilderness and coastline. Visit the vibrant town of Knysna and take a cruise in the lagoon guarded by the iconic Knysna Heads or wander the sandy beaches of Plettenberg Bay.

Day 12 - 15: Eastern Cape - Amakhala Game Reserve

Finally, a luxury suite at Hlosi Game Lodge in the Eastern Cape awaits, located on a hillside overlooking Amakhala’s grassy plains, you’ll enjoy twice daily safari activities in the 7000 hectare malaria free reserve.
