When Do You Want To Go?
Embark upon a 9-day self-drive journey through the iconic Canadian Rockies. After a couple of nights exploring Vancouver, pick-up your vehicle and head into the great wilderness where an abundance of natural delights awaits you. It would be no exaggeration to say that the roads you will take on this western Canadian journey are amongst the world’s most beautiful, smattered with colourful towns and brimming with natural phenomenons including glaciers, towering mountains, vast national parks and idyllic lakes.
Days 1 & 2: Vancouver
Across two days, explore the delightful neighbourhoods and cultural highlights of Vancouver before picking up your rental car to begin your self-drive Canadian adventure.
Day 3: Sun Peaks
Your first driving route, from Vancouver to Sun Peaks, is brimming with scenic beauty and a myriad of stops along the way. Explore Whistler village, marvel at the beauty of the Stawamus Chief Rock and the Shannon Falls, and make the short detour to Duffey Lake Road, to take in the panoramic views of the iconic Joffre Glacier.
Days 4 & 5: Jasper
The route to Jasper is simply spectacular. Follow the Thompson River through expansive rolling plateaus to the majestic peaks of the Monashee Mountains; observe the beautiful Pyramid Falls and the Albreda Icefields; and marvel at Mount Robson - the Canadian Rockies highest peak. The following day is free to personalise your time in Jasper. Options include cruising on the magnificent Maligne Lake, embarking on a gentle rafting tour on the Athabasca River or gentling hiking through the forests on a guided nature walk.
Day 6: Lake Louise
Today’s drive takes you through the spine of the Canadian Rockies and along the amazing Icefields Parkway, widely regarded as one of Canada’s greatest scenic roads. Before reaching Lake Louise, make a stop at glacial walk on the largest ice field in the Rocky Mountains and experience the majestic beauty of the enormous glaciers along the Skywalk, a glass platform elevated almost 1000 ft above the wilderness.
Days 7 & 8: Banff
Whilst Banff lies no more than 40 miles from Lake Louise, we highly recommended detouring to take the scenic Bow Valley Parkway route. In doing so, you’ll be able to experience the beauty of the Johnston Canyon and immerse yourself amongst its natural glory. The following day, a choice of activities are available in Banff. Take a cable car to the top of Sulphur Mountain, cruise on the turquoise-coloured waters of Lake Minnewanka, explore the serenity of the Bow River by canoe or if feeling a little more adventurous – horse ride in the beautiful Banff National Park.
Day 9: Departure
Conclude your Canadian self-drive adventure with a final scenic drive to Calgary. Drop-off the rental car ready for departure.
