Day-by-Day
Day 1 & 2: Kolkata
Discover the urban powerhouse of Kolkata, with its crumbling relics of the Raj, colonial architecture, art galleries and cultural festivals playing big roles in its triumphant emergence as one of India’s most creative cities. Visit the flower market beneath the Howrah cantilever bridge, the famous Jain Temple and the beautiful Dalhousie Square. At Kumartuli, watch as an army of sculptors, potters and artists work together to create idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, then see Mother Teresa’s home and learn about the incredible charity work that continues today. In the evening, enjoy a traditional ‘Bong’ evening with a local family, savouring authentic Bengali cuisine.
Day 3 - 5: Darjeeling
After a morning flight to Bagdogra, meet your driver for the journey to Darjeeling through the vast open green fields. Darjeeling has long been a popular holiday spot thanks to its cooler climate, lush scenery, colonial architecture and colourful monuments. Enjoy a ride on the world heritage toy train along scenic mountain routes from Darjeeling to Ghoom and visit the incredible monastery there, before taking a walk up to Observatory Hill to enjoy the spectacular sunset. Rise early the following morning to catch the awe-inspiring sight of the sun rising over the Himalayas from Tiger Hill. Later visit one of Darjeeling’s oldest tea estates to sample the world-famous brew.
Day 6 & 7: Gangtok
Enjoy the morning drive to Gangtok, passing the confluence of Teesta and Rangeet rivers and the East Sikkim checkpoint village of Rangpo. Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim and is a Tibetan Buddhist centre and a base for hikers heading to Sikkim’s Himalayan Mountain ranges. Enjoy an excursion to Rumtek Monastery and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, then wander through the flower exhibition – a true haven for nature lovers.
Day 8: Return
Drive to Bagdogra for the flight to Kolkata and onwards to the UK.
