If experiencing the birthplace of jazz, blues, country and rock n’ roll is music to your ears, then our sonically satisfying self-drive tour through Americana heartlands will be very much up your neon-lit street.

Illinois

This rhythmic road trip begins in vibrant Chicago, on the banks of beautiful Lake Michigan, with time to explore the city and of course visit the famous House of Blues Jazz Club. Chicago blues evolved from Delta blues via migration of the poor southern black community who travelled north for work. The basic Delta blues were enhanced with electric guitar amplification, as well as piano and bass guitar, to establish a louder, bolder sound which was needed to overcome the noise level in Chicago blues clubs.

Missouri

Making your way south through Missouri, you'll witness visit the stunning St. Louis Arch, aka "The Gateway to the West", which is a National Historic Landmark and has become an internationally recognised symbol of the city. St. Louis was an important venue for early blues and jazz, as well as country and bluegrass. Kansas City is home to famous performers such as Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Lester Young, and exports its own distinct jazz style.

Mississippi

Elvis and rock n’ roll fans will be delighted to get up close and personal with 'The King' in Graceland whilst walking in Memphis and can check out the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum before driving through the heart of the Delta Blues along the banks of the Mississippi.

The cotton fields and swamps across the state and the Deep South are reminders of a time when slaves and poorly paid workers forged communal early blues music as a form of escapism from their harsh realities, and in doing so sparked a revolution in American culture.  

Louisiana 

You'll soon find yourself dancing in the street in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, the city of Louis Armstrong and Dr John amongst many others, and one hell of a party for anyone looking for it! ‘The Big Easy’ is a place where gospel music achieves lofty heights and marching brass bands step, dip and sway down well-worn parade routes into the sunset.

And of course, don’t forget that tasty plate of Gumbo when you’re in town!

Tennessee

Follow in the footsteps of legends in Nashville - where the Country Music Hall of Fame sets the scene for this renowned musical city. Catch a show at the Grand Ole Opry, visit the Johnny Cash Museum or take a tour of the celebrated Ryman Auditorium.

Music City, U.S.A has earned its nickname over the decades which was first bestowed upon them by none other than Queen Victoria! Legend has it that on a tour of Great Britain and Europe in 1873, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the first former slaves to tour Europe after the Civil War, performed the spirituals "Steal Away to Jesus" and "Go Down, Moses" for the royal court. It was said that Victoria was so impressed by the singers that she commented that with such beautiful voices, they had to be from the ‘Music City of the United States’. Hence, the moniker was born.

Georgia

Little Richard's home state of Georgia rounds off this adventure where you'll be stopping off in the cultural hub of Atlanta, and with its explosion of modern sounds and wealth of activities on offer, this city is the perfect end to an unforgettable trip through iconic American soundscapes.
